DfES Guidelines

Our Study Tours have been designed with an emphasis placed on the the government's document 'Health and Safety of Pupils on Educational Visits - A Good Practice Guide'. We have incorporated the current best practice techniques in order to ensure that our tours are safe, secure and enjoyable for all participants.

Relevant Sections From DfES Publication 'Health and Safety of Pupils on Educational Visits':

'Before using a tour operator, group leaders have a responsibility to ensure that it is reputable. Ascertaining this should form part of the Risk Assessment. The Civil Aviation Authority licenses tour operators selling packages with an air transport element. The licence is a legal requirement and provides security against a licence holder going out of business'.

'Before booking a visit, the group leader should obtain a written or documentary assurance that the tour operator has assessed the risks and have appropriate safety measures in place'.

'It is essential that formal planning takes place before a Study Tour. This involves considering the dangers and difficulties which may arise and making plans to reduce them. Head teachers must satisfy themselves that the organisation planning and running the Study Tour is competent to do so and has the necessary relevant experience'.

'It is particularly important that parents have the opportunity to meet teachers and others who will be taking pupils overseas'.
